I paint mostly about northern Alabama and southern Tennessee, USA. Occasionally, when traveling, I paint about other places; I have recently been working on paintings along the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Most of my paintings are done on prepared wood panels, but I sometimes paint on prepared linen canvas. Sometimes I apply textures to the surface of the wood panels as part of their preparation. I tend to do relatively small paintings ranging from 3" x 5" to 20" x 36". I often use a rather wide format; some paintings are as much as five or six times as wide as they are high.

I use a limited palette which consists of warm and cool versions of the three primary colors (blue, red, and yellow)plus two greens and white. I almost never use black and use two earth colors. My only medium is a mixture of turpentine and linseed oil.

It's a little difficult to say why I paint about a particular place. For me, the aesthetic considerations when experiencing a location involve more than any “traditional” beauty. The abstract shapes of the land and the angles formed by perspective and their juxtaposition to one another interest me. And, there often is some other element about the scene that draws me to it which I can’t explain. To me, there is a beauty and interest in every place and thing.

My work has been shown in various regional museums of art, galleries, and is in a number of private collections mostly in the northeastern and southeastern USA.

I hope you enjoy viewing the paintings as much as I enjoy painting them.
